Review: Bó Drake

6 Greek Street, Soho, London, W1D 4DE

Bó Drake is an East Asian restaurant in the heart of Soho. The food is modern and bright, combining sweet and pickled influences from East Asia alongside slow cooked BBQ methods from the Americas and Europe.

They have recently launched a brand new menu, with Italian Head Chef Matteo Frugone introducing a host of European influences to the restaurant’s signature modern Asian dishes. We really enjoyed everything we tried, but the highlights include the Pork Belly Bao with Pickled Cucumber & Soy Glazed Peanuts (£10.80 – 2PC), Miso Glazed Baby Back Ribs, Smoked Apple Wood Asian BBQ Sauce (£15.80), Smoked Duck Tataki, Girolle Mushrooms, Orange Soy Dressing & Garlic Crisp (£19) and of course you can’t leave without trying the restaurant’s signature KFC – Korean Fried Chicken with Soy Garlic, Grape & Rosemary (£9) – arguably our favourite dish of the night. The Black Sushi Rice Risotto, Squid Ink & Cuttlefish (£10.50) and Kimchi Pancake, Edamame, Gochujang & Mozzarella (£9) are both examples of the fusion dishes that the chef has created, and we loved both!

BODRAKE-2“I have tried to combine the kitchen’s Asian influence with my Italian and European experience to create some truly special dishes,” says Head Chef Frugone. “At Bo Drake we use many different styles of cooking and the best seasonal ingredients to try and offer the customers something they haven’t tried before.”BODRAKE-9Head Barman Darren Farmer has also created a range of brand new cocktails for the new menu, characterized by contrasting flavours that powerful in taste and potent in alcohol, but remain Smooth drinking. Our favourites were the Let’s Get Berried – Berry infused Vodka, Eau De Vie, Egg White, the Zest & Bubbl – Bai Jiu, Floc de Gasconge, Sureau, Prosecco and the Dr Jekyll & Hyde – Hakushu Reserve, Plum Wine, Jalepeno, Vermouth & Hickory. The new cocktails are accompanied by a new range of sakes, available by the glass or by the bottle and specially selected to pair well with spicy dishes.
If you’re looking for Asian food with a twist in a relaxed atmosphere with charming service, then Bo Drake should be on your list of London restaurants to visit this year!
