If so we recommend you check out the new “Butcher-shop inspired” restaurant to grace the up and coming redevelopment in Haymarket – welcome to Chop Shop, a new development from the well-known and highly acclaimed Altamarea Group, who run 5 establishments in New York and 1 in Hong Kong. Chop Shop marks their first foray into the London dining scene.
The restaurant has been stripped back to its original features, with distressed dark woodwork to bare white washed brick walls boasting an incredible 75% of all its materials used being reclaimed, which brings a trendy yet sophisticated feel to the Chop Shop. The stylish décor mirrors the extensive menu.
To start, we began with a few sharing dishes, from tennis ball sized scotch eggs cooked to perfection with a runny yolk, to spiced crispy hot wings and a fantastic duck liver mousse. For mains we each had a different cut, a juicy medium rare Creekstone Hanger Steak, a sizeable lamb chop, white porchetta glazed with apricots, and a thick succulent fillet steak. To finish, we ordered a selection of desserts, the classic Panna Cotta with a sweet berry marmalade, the Chop Shop’s brownie sundae, fudgy brownie accompanied with a warm peanut butter sauce and a mouth watering butterscotch custard with salted caramel and Chantilly cream crushed shortbread, a desert that’s so light yet satisfying that needs to be tried to be believed.
The Chop Shop is the perfect place to end any day in the city, whether just for drinks, a quick snack or a 3 course meal, you can’t go wrong with this beautifully designed restaurant and food cooked with precision.
The staff were incredibly attentive, and with a fully stocked cocktail bar, we expect this to be a new ‘west end favourite’ for both after work diners and theatre goers alike.
