photo 2What could be better than indulging in some of the finest tea and most scrumptious cakes around whilst overlooking the city from the tallest building in Europe? This week Privée checked out the wonderful afternoon tea at Aqua, located on level 31 of The Shard.

Afternoon tea at The Shard brings an entire new meaning to the term ‘high tea’, what with being situated in the tallest and one of the most visually stunning buildings in London. When we arrived we were presented with beautiful menus to start off our experience. The traditional afternoon tea began with an imaginative selection of finger sandwiches, to which executive chef Anthony Garlando has given a truly unique British twist including smoked Loch Duart salmon with cucumber, Oscietra cavier and dill-scented cream, Chicken perfumed with lavenderShard Tea 1 mayonnaise and Hen’s egg with smoked curry mayonnaise and mustard cress.

Along with the creative range of sandwiches, they were accompanied by a wide selection of teas, with a number of fantastic unique blends, which were all delivered in stylish modern transparent teapots. Going hand in hand with a heart-warming cup of tea what more could you want than fresh warm scones with an interesting twist with vanilla and orange, with homemade jams and Jersey clotted cream. photo 4Aqua provide a selection of seasonally changing jams and jellies combining some exciting flavour combinations, all of which lift the traditional favourite British jam flavours with a new herb or essence popular in British cuisine.

To finish, we were presented with Aqua’s ‘Sweet Treats’, these included exquisite homemade cakes and patisseries, such as lemon meringue tart, a classic cassis and yoghurt panna cotta, a rich chocolate truffle, and the impressive Shard Opera cake being the star of the show, displayed with shards of white chocolate to emulate the artistic building.
