If you are not aware, there is a bar revolution occurring in London. Our capital is currently awash with some of the finest venues and mixologists in any capital city in the world. With a rare bank holiday weekend bathed in sunshine, Privée decided to explore two of East London’s latest openings of the ‘rooftop bar scene’.
The Boundary – 2-4 Boundary Street, Shoreditch, London E2 7DD
Set apart from the busy high street and tucked away down a side street in Shoreditch, people are often found queuing out the door to the entrance of ‘The Boundary’, a bar, hotel, restaurant and shop all self-contained. On arrival to the entrance we were whisked straight past the queue, with ‘friends in high places’ securing our entry for this highly in demand bar.
When we reached the top floor, the lift opened and we were escorted through glass doors to reveal an elegant Mediterranean rooftop, a world away from the hustle and bustle of East London.
The modern tranquil location provided us with excellent table service, from a well-presented knowledgeable team who offered a high-end experience. Although ‘The Boundary’ is hidden away from the crowds in the area, this selected location has the most open views of The City and in particular Heron Tower, which can be enjoyed with a crisp bottle of wine in a great outside space. It is the perfect summer location, for either a relaxing evening with friends.
The Golden Bee – Singer St London EC1V 9DD
Not so far away from ‘The Boundary’ is ‘The Golden Bee’, just a stone’s throw from Old Street Station. We entered the bar area initially which led to a double set of metal spiral staircases to the wooden decked rooftop. This ‘gem in the sky’ resembled a beach hut with a more laid-back feel offering a wide selection of cocktails and bottled beers, open to reservations or a simple walk in service. The lively bar was full to the brim of Friday night partygoers enjoying drinks in what ‘The Golden Bee’ describes itself as ‘the ultimate in cool’ before a night on the town.
The bar was enjoyed by all, even when the sun went down and it started getting chilly, a large fire bowl kept the night on track and our friends warm. The rooftop offered more of the typical Shoreditch feel, current and trendy with a bubbly atmosphere.
